Accepting Internship Applications for Fall 2007

The Minnesota Women's Political Caucus has great new programs starting and we can use interns to assist in the development and implementation of its new and existing programs.

The current programs of the Minnesota Women's Political Caucus (MWPC) are:

  • E-Women Win - is a project of the MNWPC Education Council. E-Women Win has its own website, regular e-lerts related to political developments in Minnesota. E-Women Win is dedicated to informing women in Minnesota about Minnesota politics.

  • Campaign Assistance Project (CAP) - This is a project of the MWPC Political Action Committee. The CAP is an opportunity to work with people to give time, money and services to candidates. The PAC is working on a new project, the Minnesota HotDish Project.

  • Diversity Outreach Project (DOP) - the DOP is a program funded by the Bremer Foundation under the supervision of the MWPC Education Council. The purpose of the Diversity Outreach Project is to increase the political voice of women of color throughout Minnesota. The long-term goal is to increase the number of women of color running for office all levels, thereby increasing the number of women in elected and appointed office. The strategy to accomplish this is to develop partnerships and relationships with recognized and emerging women leaders in Minnesota’s four primary racial/ethnic communities and to work together on issues of concern to women in each of these communities.

The MWPC works with diverse communities statewide. Interns will have the opportunity to perform hands-on organizing or to research and publish white papers related to the work of the Caucus and its impact on the Minnesota electorate.

Outreach Interns will conduct community outreach to increase participation in the MWPC programs. Interns will be communicating by phone and in person, will work with the MWPC communications staff, and depending upon specific responsibilities may work with focus groups, political campaigns, website development, and community organizations.

Research Interns are college or post-graduate interns who will work on research on issues of concern to Minnesota women and candidates. Research interns will be creating white papers for publication. Research interns must be familiar with standard writing styles and have strong grammar and writing skills.

Internships allow for flexible scheduling and can be crafted to meet credit requirements at both the college and post-graduate levels. Internships may be paid or unpaid depending upon duties and hours.

The MWPC also accepts high school students for unpaid internships.

A qualified applicant will possess the following skills:

  • Interest in the political process
  • Interest in working with the women's community
  • Good communication skills, especially speaking with people at local events and on the phone
  • A self-starting, positive, self-motivated personality and sense of humor
